The gruesome find of a severed arm wrapped in plastic draws Tessa and Steve into a case that takes them through the dark storm water tunnels of the city and sends them both home with nightmares. The discovery of the disembodied head does not help them to identify the victim, it is the final discovery of the limbless torso that provides the charmed clue.

Trevor Parkin is found dead in the zoo, stabbed in the chest whilst wearing a gorilla suit. Mrs Parkin is more interested in the neighbourhood gossip, than her husband's murder. Tessa and Steve meet the Zoo PR man and his son, Sally, the zoo assistant, a school teacher on an excursion to the zoo and a petty thief.

A murder of a photographer leads Tessa and Steve into the world of the paparazzi media. Photos and long stemmed roses appear to be the only clues. Whilst the detectives investigate who has been a victim of the paparazzi, they too are caught by the camera in an compromising situation.
