In the spring of 1954, the Viet Minh rebels under General Vo Nguyen Giap launched an attack on the French stronghold of Dien Bien Phu. What resulted was a desperate two month battle, the outcome of which would have serious repercussions not only for the First Indochina War, but for all of Vietnam for decades to come.
