Chinese passengers paid $30,000 to sail to the US on the freighter Golden Venture, expecting to arrive indebted by unnoticed. But the ship's tragic grounding off NYC was the largest capture of undocumented immigrants in US history and became a symbol of national anger over illegal immigration.
