A British lawyer approaches another small-time lawyer, Harry Venn, to dig up a lost witness for an important case. Harry agrees to take on the job, but his investigation draws him deeply into his dark past, which also involves the death of his own brother. It turns out the case is entangled in British politics, creating a sticky and dangerous situation that could spell disaster not only for Harry, but many other people caught in a web of conspiracy.
