L'Enfant, retitled as "The Child" in UK markets, is a French-language, Belgian film about a young couple, Bruno and Sonia, who are barely making ends meet between welfare and petty crimes; especially once Sonia learns that she's pregnant. While the couple manage to stay around long enough for Sonia to deliver the child, Bruno decides to hand the child over to illegal adoption for money. However, he quickly comes to his senses, reclaiming the child at a steeper cost, in both a financial and interpersonal manner. With no woman, child, or prospects, Bruno sees only prison time in his future.
