The movie is the story of American journalist Anna Ella Carroll's actions during the Civil War. She was an unofficial member of Lincoln's Cabinet. Carroll believed the Tennessee River could give the Union an advantage in battle, and she was responsible for the Tennessee River Plan that helped end the war.
