Roswell Gilbert was married to his wife Emily for over five decades. During the last ten years of Emily's life she suffered from Alzheimer's and osteoporosis. Her husband claims she begged for a mercy killing, and he shot her in the head. Subsequently, he was indicted on murder charges and found guilty. The film explores the Gilberts' dilemma and the broader theme of euthanasia.
