Remy is a middle aged professor with strong socialist beliefs living in Montreal who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. His estranged son Sebastien is a firm capitalist working as a finance expert in London. But the two men manage to reconnect and find common ground when Sebastien returns home to take care of his ailing father and the two travel to Vermont for medical care. As the end draws near Remy spends his remaining time having lively discussions with his family, friends, and previous lovers.
