The Christmas That Almost Wasn't is an Italian-made, live-action Christmas special from 1966, and a fun twist on the beloved "A Christmas Carol" formula. A crooked landlord named Phineas T. Prune charges Santa and his mother exorbitant rent, and threatens to repossess everything old Saint Nick owns and shut down his gift-giving operation unless he's paid. The duty of rescuing Christmas falls to honest, young lawyer Sam Whipple who promised as a child to help Santa if he was ever in need.
