A timely tale with a supernatural twist, this made for television movie was the ancestor of later high school witch revenge tales from the 1990s. The Spell's plot features a lonely and overweight teenager who is being cruelly mocked and bullied by some of her school's mean girls. When the teen discovers that she has inherited powerful abilities from a dead ancestor, she concocts a much more powerful and satisfying revenge than merely complaining to the school office. But she can't control the havoc that results, leaving it up to her harried single mother to try to save the day.
