The movie tells the tale of the two men responsible for creating The Statue of Liberty; Frederic Berthold and Jack Marchand. Frederic Auguste Berthold chooses a young beautiful woman as his model for the Liberty statue. He falls in love with her. In America, Jack Marchand faces bigotry because he is Jewish and has to fight to get work until an Irish businessman takes pity on him. He hires him to construct the base for the statue Berthold is creating in France.
