The Tale of The Princess Kaguya is an animation from respected Japanese group Studio Ghibli, the story is based on an ancient Japanese myth about a miniature girl found in a bamboo shoot. The movie tells the story of Princess, a small girl found within a piece of bamboo by the local cutter, Okina. After finding Princess, Okina takes her home to his wife Ona, where the couple decide to bring up the child as their own daughter. Princess grows quickly to a normal size and makes many friends in the village, Okina remains convinced of his new daughters royal lineage and hopes to one day prove her royal descent.

Cutting bamboo in the same area he found Princess in, Okina finds gold within the bamboo and convinces everybody this is proof of the royal background of Princess. Okina takes his daughter from their mountain village to the city and buys her an impressive mansion and the finest clothes and jewelry. Princess is given the name Kaguya and looks set for the perfect life of royalty, but she longs to escape and return to a more simple life filled with friends and real laughter.
