The complex plot is set against the backdrop of a sometimes glitzy, but frequently seedy, Hollywood entertainment industry. The characters embody sometimes stereotypical film industry figures: ad executives, film makers, starlets, a psychiatrist and even a voyeur and subplots include a variety of addictions, from alcohol abuse to drugs to craving fame and celebrity. Essentially, events unwind as four adulterous relationships intertwine and egos clash. The film stars include Stellan Skarsgard, Salma Hayek, Jeanne Tripplehorm and Holly Hunter.
