As she's lamenting the shaky status of her relationship with Maxwell, Fran learns that her mother has been solicited about buying a condo in Florida. While initially dubious, after realizing the benefits of having her far away, Fran decides to accompany Sylvia to hear the sales pitch. However, after convincing her mother to move as soon as possible, the mere thought of it suddenly depresses Fran. At Maxwell's urging, Fran agrees to consult her therapist, who diagnoses her problem as separation anxiety. While Dr. Miller encourages Fran to give the idea some time before overreacting, to help her realize that it's all for the better, Maxwell invites her to come along with him and the family to Florida to see her mother's new home. And though she's reluctant to go, word that he's judging the Miss Universe contest quickly changes Fran's mind.
